Participation in “EIC Roadshow” information event (Kyiv, July 24, 2019)

On July 24, 2019, an information event “EIC ROADSHOW” involving the European Innovation Council was held at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (hereinafter – MES). Representatives of the European Commission, MES, research institutions and universities from all over Ukraine participated at the EIC Roadshow event. Natalia Pron, a researcher of the Scientific and Organizational Department of the State Scientific Institution “Institute of Educational Analytics” (hereinafter – SSI “IEA”), Ph.D. in Economics, attended the event as a representative of SSI “IEA”.

The European Innovation Council (hereinafter – EIC) is a pilot project aims to create favourable conditions for the implementation of innovative ideas throughout the project life cycle: from the development of an innovative product to its commercialization. In March 2019, the European Commission initiated the EIC pilot project. However, EIC would become a separate financial instrument within the next European Union research and innovation program “Horizon Europe 2021-2027” from 2021. Scholars, innovators, entrepreneurs and small businesses are eligible for the grant, as the total EIC budget is over € 2 billion for 2019-2020.

Maksym Strikha, a Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine and Johannes Baur, Head of Sector for Economic Cooperation, Energy, Environment and Infrastructure at the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine delivered welcoming remarks.

Then, Stephane Ouaki, Head of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation at the European Commission, EIC expert provided more details concerning the principles and features of EIC and demonstrated practical tools used in the EU in order to promote and stimulate scientific, technical and innovative activities.

The next part of the event was carried out in the format of a panel discussion moderated by Olena Skyrta, co-founder of the popular conference “InScience”.

The speakers of this part of the event were Dmitry Cheberkus – Director General of the Directorate of Science of the MES, Daria Chaika – Director General of the Directorate for Innovation and Technology Transfer, Lesia Sevruk – Member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Startup Fund, Iurii-Volodymyr Blavt – Project Manager of CIVITTA Ukraine, Sviatoslav Sviatnenko – Director for Business Development “Borsch Ventures” and author of the “Polyteda Cloud” project, Dmytro Kovalchuk – Director of the Ukrainian company “Chervona Hvylya”, developer of the international “xBeam 3D metal printing” project and European colleague Stephane Ouaki.

Summing up the event, the organizers thanked all the participants for their cooperation and invited for further engagement in the context of innovation development and technology transfer.
