State Scientific Institution “Institute of Educational Analytics” Showcases Ukraine’s Experience of Sustaining Education During Wartime at the GPE KIX EMAP International Workshop in Ethiopia (29 June–3 July 2026)

From 29 June to 3 July 2026, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, hosted the GPE KIX EMAP International Knowledge Exchange and Innovation Workshop, organised by the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange. The event brought together leading education researchers, policy-makers and experts who contribute to shaping education policies and reforms across 38 partner countries.

At the invitation of the organisers, Ukraine was represented at this prestigious international forum by Professor Sergiy Londar, First Deputy Director for Research at the State Scientific Institution “Institute of Educational Analytics”.

The workshop marked the culmination of two global learning cycles launched earlier in 2026 under the GPE KIX EMAP programme:

  • Global LC1 – Advancing Gender Equality in Education;
  • Global LC2 – Using Data to Inform Education Policy.

The workshop focused on identifying effective ways of translating research evidence into education policy and strategic planning, thereby strengthening evidence-informed decision-making across education systems.

During the working sessions, national teams presented their final policy briefs. Through peer review and constructive discussions with international experts, participants received valuable feedback to refine these strategic policy documents further. At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants were awarded international certificates recognising the successful completion of the learning programme.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the plenary session, during which three featured presentations selected by the organisers were delivered. Alongside representatives from Senegal and Guyana, Ukraine was invited to present its experience. Professor Serhii Londar delivered a presentation entitled “Learning Despite War: Reducing Regional Disparities in Ukraine’s Mathematics Education Through Teacher Development and Implementing New Educational Technologies. The presentation attracted considerable interest among the international audience and prompted lively discussion on practical approaches to ensuring the continuity and quality of education during emergencies and armed conflicts.

Participation in the workshop provided an important opportunity to showcase Ukraine’s experience in sustaining and adapting its education system under wartime conditions. It also enabled the State Scientific Institution “Institute of Educational Analytics” to significantly expand its international professional network, lay the foundations for closer cooperation with leading educational institutions across different regions of the world, and create new opportunities for exchanging experience in evidence-informed education policy and educational innovation.
